My client felt her rustic cottage sitting room was looking 'very brown' and dated. She wanted to lift the room with scandi/country style influences along a soft white, grey, taupe colour palette and slightly more contemporary design, whilst still honouring the age of the house.
I immediately set about suggesting lightening the stonework and beams with affordable decorating techniques, changing the colour of the PVC windows and walls to lift and brighten. Removing some furniture and swapping others for a more cohesive white washed wood items, gave the room a sense of space. Touches of black in the iron floor lamp, picture frames, ornaments and windows lend a contrasting contemporary feel and help tie the older part of the house in with the adjoining dining room extension.
